AMERICAN AIRLINES INCREASES CAPACITY ON SELECT SPANISH ROUTES
Aircraft upgrades in Madrid and Barcelona
As part of a variety of schedule alterations, American Airlines has announced it will increase capacity by introducing larger aircraft on some of its Spanish routes during next year.
The most significant change will see the reintroduction of a three-class Boeing 777-200 into the Spanish market and operating between Madrid and Dallas/Fort Worth for the first time. As American's largest fleet aircraft, the Boeing 777 will increase the route's capacity by nearly 10% and also enable the airline's First Class Flagship Suites to be introduced to the service. The equipment change begins on April 6 until 23rd August to cover the busier summer months and during which time the route will celebrate its one year anniversary.
The second change will take effect on December 10th 2009 when the Barcelona-New York JFK route will become operated by a 219 seat two-class Boeing 767-300 aircraft in place of the existing 182 seat two-class Boeing 757-200. The upgrade represents a capacity increase of over 20% and the reintroduction of a twin-aisle wide-body aircraft.
Nieves Rodriguez, Country Sales Manager Spain & Portugal, American Airlines commented: "The upcoming schedule adjustments reflect American's long held policy of capacity discipline. In this instance the changes represent the best use of available aircraft and the introduction of equipment upgrades in Spain, combined with the launch of the new Madrid-New York JFK flight next year, serves to further demonstrate American's commitment to the Spanish market."
