The company’s 18,600 employees provide regional flight and ground handling services to American under the American Eagle brand. The company was founded in 1998 as American Eagle Airlines Inc., following the merger of several smaller regional carriers to create one of the largest regional airlines in the world.

Piedmont is headquartered in Salisbury, Maryland, and operates a fleet of Embraer 145 regional jets. Piedmont’s ground handling team can be found in more than 80 airports across the U.S., providing ground services for American Airlines customers.

Named for American’s retired Chairman and CEO, the 300-acre Robert L. Crandall Campus in Fort Worth, Texas, is home to the airline’s headquarters and is designed to support American’s global operations and team members. The campus can support up to 12,000 team members on site each day and connects 8 buildings:
The American Airlines Federal Credit Union’s headquarters and the American Airlines CR Smith Museum are conveniently located adjacent to the campus.
The Robert W. Baker Integrated Operations Center (IOC) is the central communications center for American Airlines. The 149,000-square-foot facility opened in 2015 and houses more than 1,600 team members who oversee and coordinate American’s global operation.
When the American Airlines Stewardess College first opened in 1957, it was the airline industry’s first specially designed training facility for flight attendants. American’s new Hospitality Complex, known as Skyview 6, opened in January 2023, providing team members with a convenient place to lodge, eat, socialize and work out when visiting the Robert L. Crandall Campus for training. Located at the heart of the campus, the new facility includes 600 hotel rooms for visiting team members, several dining options, a 10,000-square-foot ballroom to host company events, a 73,500-square-foot fitness center and outdoor sport courts.
The history of American and the air transportation industry is on display at the CR Smith Museum for team members, retirees and the public to experience through interactive, hands-on displays. The museum collects artifacts and archival materials that are seen by tens of thousands of visitors per year.

The DFW Flight Academy and Charlotte (CLT) Training Centers provide training activities for more than 1,000 American and American Eagle (Envoy, PSA and Piedmont) pilots each month. Each year, American’s pilots operate millions of challenging flight training miles, testing on thousands of emergency scenarios and malfunctions to ensure safety and preparedness.
The DFW Flight Academy, which is a part of the Robert L. Crandall Campus, houses 30 mainline full-flight simulators. The CLT Training Center has 13 simulator bays, with 4 mainline full flight simulators and 8 wholly owned American Eagle full flight simulators.
American’s Base Maintenance facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is one of the largest and most comprehensive aviation maintenance facilities in the world. With more than 4,600 team members, the majority of whom are licensed aircraft and jet engine mechanics, it’s also one of the largest private employers in Oklahoma.
